If you are researching the history of the north woods or even your own genealogy, the Iron County Museum offers you a variety of reference materials. Newspapers from the Range dating back more than 100 years are available on microfilm. In addition to the traditional microfilm reader, we have just installed a state-of-the-art microfilm scanner system so that patrons may burn images directly to CD (please be skilled in this area as there is no technical assistance available and you must bring your own CDs).
Our collection includes many historic editions of local high school annuals. We also have all of the old tax and court records from when Iron County was first carved out of Ashland and Oneida counties in 1893, and those records for many years subsequent. We do not have vital records on site - those you can obtain by visiting the Register of Deeds office at the new courthouse at 300 Taconite Street.
