The Hurley area is rich with history, from 19th century mining and logging to remnants of the roaring twenties that included Hurley's rejection of alcohol prohibition and entertaining of Chicago's darkest figures like Al & Ralph Capone, John Dillinger and Baby Face Nelson.

This route served as a key transportation route for Native Americans centuries before Europeans arrived on the scene.
