Creatures of the Night : Birds

As twilight settles over Copper Falls State Park and daytime visitors head home, a different cast of wildlife begins to stir. The Friends of Copper Falls State Park invite the public to explore this fascinating nighttime world during Creatures of the Night: Birds, a family-friendly program on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Pavilion.

This special evening program is the first in a three-part “Creatures of the Night” series that explores the animals that thrive after dark. The June program will focus on Wisconsin’s nocturnal birds and the unique adaptations that allow them to hunt, communicate, and navigate in the darkness.

Participants will learn about:

• Birds and other animals that are primarily active at night in Wisconsin
• The effects of artificial light on wildlife and natural ecosystems
• Owls known to inhabit Copper Falls State Park and how they communicate

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to venture outdoors and listen for owl calls in the park. Participants may even try calling for owls themselves and experience the thrill of hearing these elusive nighttime hunters respond from the surrounding forest.

“Most visitors experience the park during daylight hours, but the night reveals an entirely different side of nature,” said program organizers. “Owls and other nocturnal birds are among Wisconsin’s most fascinating wildlife, and this program offers a rare chance to learn about them in their natural environment.”

The program is appropriate for all ages and is designed for families, bird enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the natural world after sunset.

Pets are not permitted at the program site.

A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission pass is required for park entry.
